Run for Your Life Michael Bennett James Patterson Michael Ledwidge Books Reviews

If you liked the first Michael Bennett you will love book 2! His character becomes more real as well as those of his huge family! Of course the story line is terrific with its twists and turns plus challenges for Detective Bennett! Enjoy!
I use to read lots of James Patterson's books, especially the ones about Alex Cross. I started reading this book with lots of expectations, especially that the ratings were so high. I wanted to see a little bit of romance, tragedy, violence and mystery. This book however hit me as nothing but violence. There was not even a mystery part to it. To sum it up it was pretty much about a killer who killed people who pissed him off and there was a detective with a family of 10 and deceased wife who was trying to catch him. No twist, no tragedy, no mystery and no romance. Just pure blood. I am very disappointed.
If you want to read a good mystery book, try Aaron Patterson. James Patterson lost his magic touch of a pen.
I really like Michael Bennett. This guy is an amazing father, who shows his vulnerability as well as his skills. The story moves quickly and keeps you turning pages. His dealings with his kids make you laugh out loud and his love for his wife makes you cry. You've got to read this book.
Michael Bennett does it again, this was book two in the series and I can't wait for number three.Michael is a widowed father of ten adopted children and a very dangerous job of catching murderers. This book is a page turner.
What begins as a series of random killings becomes something entirely different. Mike Bennett must juggle the killer, a pushy reporter, his boss, his bosses' boss, a curmugeon father-in-law and a brood of 10 adopted kids. And the story line concerning his wife is heart-wrenching.

Run For Your Live is not a typical "Patterson" book, simply because he didn't write it. Michael Ledwidge is another beginning author taken under Patterson's wing, and he is not up to Patterson's ability. That being said, it is a fairly entertaining, lightweight story worth reading. This time around, there is a little too much concentration on Mike Bennett's kids, but since this is a continuing series, I suggest that readers who are interested will stick with it for a while. The chararacters will have time to develop.

If I had paid hard-cover prices, I would be unhappy, but I'll continue to buy the series in paperback as long as it doesn't take a big downhill turn.
I love a book that grabs you in the first few pages and keeps you turning the pages rapidly.
the first third of this book deals with ten children "puking" J. P.'s term not mine.
I almost gave up here, but kept hoping it would improve.
The next third of the book is filled with Bennett trying to get his big boy pants on
so he can take the lead solving these murders.
No action,to speak of, just multiple descriptions of expensive clothing, name dropping, and whining
about how tired he is.
Crime scenes are quickly glossed over in an effort to keep the pace exciting;which failed.
Trite, brief, dialogue. With his partner and Of course there is the requisite reporter
who hits on him and causes him grief.
When the action finally arrives the book is over.
By this time I didn't care about who was killed or why.
I so miss the author of Swimsuit, Postcard Killers etc.
Compared to "Step on a Crack", the first book in the Michael Bennett series, "Run for Your Life" was a bit of a disappointment.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but it wasn't as engaging as the first book. It abandoned the charm and pathos of the Bennett family and focused on seemingly never-ending incidents of insane violence topped off with an absolutely over-the-top ending.

Hopefully, the next books in the series will get back on track.
